This is my personal blog. I focus on topics related to what it means to follow Jesus. In this blog I plan to share my journey. I don’t think I have it all figured out. The opposite is true. I feel like l have so far to travel. That’s partly why I am starting this blog. I am searching for a community of people who want to dialogue about Jesus and the implications that following him can have on our lives. I write as a fellow traveler on the journey about questions like, “What does it mean to be a follower of Jesus?”, “What can I expect?”, and, “How can I help others follow him?” I also want to help pastors and other church leaders who bear the responsibility of influencing the spiritual direction of those under their care, so I will write about spiritual coaching, church systems, and how to optimize an organization to facilitate disciple-making. I read the bible regularly in the original languages (Hebrew and Greek) so at times I may also provide detailed biblical research that I find interesting or helpful.
Part of my journey includes writing Learning to Follow Jesus. Jesus only gave one command in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19), “make disciples.” This book attempts to help everyone know how to walk alongside of others as they develop 7 essential attributes of the disciple: Being with Jesus, Hearing, Healing, Influencing, Loving, Praying, and Managing. My thoughts and research tend to collect around those attributes. We also have some great resources to help leaders launch a “Follow” campaign to integrate discipleship into every touch point of the church: children, youth, small groups, sermon, classes, and in one-on-one relationships.
One day we all are going to meet Jesus and I believe he is going to ask us what we did with the one command he gave us. I have decided to focus the rest of my life around that. That’s really my passion! If you are interested in learning more about being and making disciples, this blog is for you.
I typically will post once or twice a week. To make sure you don’t miss my newest posts, you can subscribe via RSS or e-mail.
